Karachi, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) cricket team won the Advance Telecom 2nd Corporate T20 Cup 2012 at DHA Sports Club, Moin Khan Academy on Saturday night, beating Omar Associates by 15 runs in the final.
After winning the toss Omar Associates surprisingly decided to field first on a good batting wicket. They got an early breakthrough taking the wicket of opener Zain Abbas but without any further damage. State Bank’s Naveed Malik and Farrukh Majeed scored 68 runs together with Naveed Malik who scored 29 in 18 balls. Captain SBP Adnan Raees batted aggressively to notch up 34 runs in just 20 balls with 2 sixes and 2 fours. Farrukh Majeed was the star of State Bank’s innings scoring 84 runs in 67 balls with 10 boundaries and 2 sixes. Sultan Ahmed picked 3 wickets for 21 runs in 3 overs.
Replying to SBP’s total score of 166 for 7, Omar Associates lost their Captain Hafiz Majid early but Umar Siddiq held his nerves and scored freely within the required run rate. He made 76 runs in 58 balls smashing 3 sixes and 7 fours. None of other batsman from Omar Associates could support him to chase the target and they fell short of 15 runs, losing 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Ansar Javed, Sadaat Munir and Hasan Mahmood claimed 2 wickets each.
Younus Khan, former Pakistan Captain was the Chief Guest. Umar Siddiq and Sultan Ahmed of Omar Associates were declared the best batsmen and the bowler of the tournament respectively and Hasan Mehmood won the coveted prize of player of the tournament. Farrukh Shehzad won the Man-of-the-Match of the Final for his superb knock of 84 runs. He received cash prize of Rs.30,000, Nokia Mobile Phone, Return Air Ticket of Abu Dhabi and a VIP Match Ticket of upcoming Pakistan and Australia Series and few gift hampers.
The winning team was presented with five hundred thousand rupees (Rs.500,000) from the Chief Guest Younis Khan in the presence of Rehan Shaikh of Advance Telecom. Omar Associates received the runners up reward of two hundred and fifty thousand (Rs.250,000). Governor State Bank Yaseen Anwar, Prof. Siraj ul Islam Bukhari, President KCCI and Moin Khan, Chairman Tournament Committee were also present at the presentation ceremony.
